FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Q. Why should I schedule a consultation with Burton Prosthetics?
A. Maybe you’re facing an upcoming amputation (or you just had an amputation) and want to learn about your options. Maybe your doctor has told you that you need a brace. Or perhaps you aren’t satisfied with your current orthotic/prosthetic provider or have found that other providers won’t work with you on the financial end of things. Whatever the reason, you’re always welcome here for expert advice and/or a second opinion.

Q. What can I expect on my first visit?
A. At Burton Prosthetics we begin with a comprehensive evaluation of your specific condition and a review of your history, occupation, and lifestyle. After assessing your prosthetic or orthotic needs and goals, we will discuss the treatment options available and address any questions or concerns you may have. The initial visit is also your opportunity to see our facility, meet our staff and get to know our professional care team.

We make house calls! If you’d like, we can provide your initial consultation in the comfort and privacy of your own home, a nursing home or wherever you are residing. This gives us unique insight into your living environment. Whether you receive your initial consultation at home or in the office, it is provided free of charge.

Q. What should I bring to my initial appointment?
A. Be sure to bring your insurance cards and written prescription. A doctor's prescription is required for all custom-fabricated devices and professional services. Bringing a family member or close friend is always a good idea.

Q. I’m getting my first prosthesis. Is it normal to feel a little frightened and overwhelmed?
A. Yes, it is. Though Burton Prosthetics has been through this process a thousand times, we understand it can be a scary and uncertain time for the patient. Rest assured, our staff will guide you carefully through all phases of your care. We’ll provide open and honest communication and treat you with dignity and respect. The road ahead won’t be easy, but with your commitment and trust, we can help you return to a functional and rewarding life.

Q. Do you have the most advanced prostheses available to me?
A. Absolutely. Burton Prosthetics offers every technology available in the prosthetic industry today. This includes all socket designs and suspension mechanisms too numerous to mention. Our founder, Russ Burton, even owns a patented below knee socket design. All computerization and microprocessor control systems are also available. You should know that a prosthesis that works perfectly for one patient won’t necessarily work for another. Ultimately, the components used for your prosthesis are based on your individual needs.

Q. Where will my prosthetic/orthotic device be made?
A. At Burton Prosthetics, all of our fabrication is done in-house by our skilled technicians using the most advanced components available. This allows us to bring you a prosthetic or orthotic device quickly while keeping tight control of cost and product quality.

Q. What types of insurance do you accept?
A. We accept Medicare, Medicaid, VA, Worker’s Compensation and various major medical and group plans. Our administrative staff is highly knowledgeable in the ever-changing insurance industry and will advocate on your behalf to get all the benefits to which you are entitled. In other words, we go to bat for you. Please contact us if you have any questions regarding insurance coverage and benefits.

Q. What if I can’t afford the deductibles on my insurance?
A. Sometimes large deductibles and co-pays make it very difficult for certain patients to receive an artificial limb. At Burton Prosthetics, we believe that no one should go without the care they need. Our administrative staff may be able to help you find financial assistance, or we can set up a financing plan to fit your budget. You’ll find we are flexible and fair.

Q. Will Burton Prosthetics be there for me down the road?
A. Positively yes! When you choose Burton Prosthetics for your prosthetic or orthotic care, you’re not just getting a device, you’re forging a lifelong relationship with us. We remain committed to our patients for their entire lives. You can count on us for ongoing service, support and the assurance of having an expert opinion whenever it’s needed.
